However, with a few concessions, the current Deluxe version of StroboSoft can be used for tuning piano on a hobbyist or novice-level. Depending on your type of piano, your level of experience, and tuning approach, your results may vary.
Some users have discovered a way to 'trick' the software. Several StroboSoft users who originally bought the software for use with their string instruments have tried it on their pianos with great results.
Using Equal Temperament, you can use a preset that contains 12 tuning locations, such as the 12-string pedal steel, to store your stretch values for one octave. You would create one preset for every octave.
Most piano tuners use equipment (or dedicated piano software) to tune the middle octaves and work outwards using the tuner for reference but tweaking notes by ear. StroboSoft can definitely be used in such a manner!
We have stretch charts in our 490-ST manual that can be used as a reference located here. These can be referenced when tuning and the values can be stored in the presets you create.
We solely recommend the AutoStrobe™ 490ST for piano tuning as this has been the professional's choice equipment for years.
You will need an external microphone or pick-up device with the 490ST and StroboSoft.
Please note: We do not guarantee the 0.1 cent accuracy of StroboSoft when used for tuning piano in the extreme upper and lower octaves of some models. Please refer to the StroboSoft specifications if you are considering purchasing StroboSoft for sole piano tuning. |
