Tuning FAQ
options

Guitarists who use a capo will know how difficult it is to stay in tune if you change from "no capo" to capo on fret X to capo on fret Y. The problem is that the extra pressure that a capo puts on the strings makes a well tuned guitar go out of tune very quickly. Add your finger pressure and a few more capo changes and you are looking at some serious tuning blues.Try the following remedy using your tuner:

Peterson Strobe Tuners - Capo
1.) Detune the guitar by a half-step (semitone). If you're not sure how to do this, let the Virtual Strobe make it an easy task by going to the KEY or DROP function. If you need help on how to get your tuner in this mode, see your instruction manual or look at it online.

1.) Put the tuner in -1 key or drop mode.

2.) Now tune your guitar to EADGBE as displayed on the strobe. (open tunings also work)

3.) Put the tuner back in the KEY/DROP 0 setting.

4.) Place your capo in the first fret position.

5.) Notice how sharp the tuning has become?

6.) Now retune the guitar to EADGBE (or your preferred normal tuning).

You can now move the capo to several different positions without going completely out of tune. For the best results you should always retune your guitar after changing capo positions.
